Rey Mysterio's Biography

Oscar Gutierrez Rubio (Rey Mysterio) was born on December 11, 1974, in San Diego, California. Rey still lives in San Diego with his wife Angie and their two children, Dominik and Aalyah.

Mysterio has numerous tattoos, including his children's names, his wife Angie's name, various designs, his masks, and the word "Mexican" on his stomach. He also has tattooed a large spine onto his back.

Rey Mysterio was trained by his uncle Rey Misterio Sr. . Rey made his debut as a wrestler at age 14 in a small church in Tijuana, Mexico, where he used the name Colobri (Spanish for hummingbird). In 1995, Rey had his ECW debut match, where he defeated Psicosis, and in 1996 he was signed by WCW. He had many great matches against both luchadores and cruiserweights alike, but his most famous match came against real-life friend Eddie Guerrero at "Halloween Havoc 1997." Rey Mysterio is known for having a high flying style which helped kick-start the cruiserweight revolution in the United States of America in the late 1990s - during his time in World Championship Wrestling.

Mysterio signed with the WWE in 2002 and for almost all WWE appearances Mysterio keeps his face covered by a variety of masks. The colors of the masks vary, and he also wears contact lenses to match the color of his ring attire. Mysterio has been unmasked two times while in WWE. The most recent occurred during SummerSlam 2006 where his entire mask came off as the result of a punch delivered by Chavo Guerrero. He also removed his mask in his testimonial video on the Eddie Guerrero RAW tribute show, but put his head down so nobody could see his face.

Rey Mysterio was out on injury which was the result of a feud between him and Chavo Guerrero after an "I Quit" match held on Smackdown, on the 20 th of October 2006. Chavo hanged Rey upside down and hit him twice on his knee with a steel chair. After the match against Chavo, Rey did a knee surgery which lasted four months to recuperate.
